How many times a week should a 70 year old work out?
Gym FAQs › Fitness for older adults
A 70 year old should aim to be active on most days, building up to at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week. The HSE also recommends strength and balance training on three or more days a week for people over 65, to build strength and help prevent falls.
A sample week
- Three strength and balance sessions, such as a Senior Fit class
- Brisk walks of around 30 minutes on most days
- Gentle stretching or mobility work on rest days
Start where you are
If you are not active at the moment, any movement is better than none. Start with shorter sessions and build up gradually. Talk to your GP first if you have a heart condition, recent surgery or any other health concern.
