What is the cheapest gym to be a member of?

Gym FAQs › Gym costs and membership

Quick answer

The cheapest gyms to join in Dublin are usually the budget 24-hour chains, which charge from around €20 to €40 a month for equipment access. The cheapest gym on paper is not always the best value, though, because a membership you rarely use or use without guidance often costs more per result than a coached option.

Work out your cost per session

Divide the monthly fee by the number of times you actually go. A €30 membership used twice a month costs €15 a visit. A coached class that you attend every time because it is booked and someone expects you there can work out as better value, even at a higher headline price.

Questions to ask before you join

  • Is there a joining fee or an annual maintenance fee?
  • How long is the minimum contract, and how much notice do I need to give to cancel?
  • Will anyone show me how to use the equipment or write me a programme?
  • Can I try it for free first?
