Is Tryka the same as HYROX?
Gym FAQs › Fitness classes
No. Tryka and HYROX are separate races run by different organisers, but they are built on the same idea. Both mix running with functional fitness stations. HYROX uses 8 x 1km runs and finishes with wall balls. Tryka, which started in Ireland, uses 8 x 800m runs and finishes with a 40m sprint.
How Tryka and HYROX compare
- Running: HYROX has 8 x 1km runs (8km in total). Tryka has 8 x 800m runs (6.4km in total).
- Shared stations: both races include the SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, rowing, farmers carry, lunges and burpee broad jumps.
- Different stations: HYROX finishes with wall balls. Tryka has Ram Thrusters in place of wall balls, and finishes with burpee broad jumps and a 40m sprint.
- Beginner option: Tryka offers Tryka 500, which keeps the same stations but shortens each run to 500m.
- Origins: Tryka was founded in Ireland and holds race weekends in Dublin. HYROX is an international series.
Which one should you do first?
If you are new to hybrid racing, Tryka 500 is the gentlest starting point because of its shorter runs. If you already run regularly, either race is a good target. Both offer Open divisions for most people, Pro divisions with heavier weights, and doubles or relay options where you share the work with friends.
Can you train for both at the same time?
Yes. Most of the stations are the same, so one training plan covers both races. Build your running base, practise the sled and carries, and add wall balls or thrusters depending on which race you enter. Practising running straight after a station matters more than anything else in either race.
